The Old And New Silk Road
The history of textiles is a long story that starts at the beginning of time. Mankind has created textiles not only to fit their needs, but to also tell stories. Textiles evolved and certain regions naturally perfected different types of textiles. Trades began and continue today as well. Fabric and textiles will always be a necessity, but the way they are created and transported are different. This wall piece shows the juxtaposition between the old and new textile industries. The laser cut circles are maps of three of the biggest modern textile cities today -Istanbul, Lake Como, and Mumbai- which are all connected by a map of the ancient Silk Road, a tribute to the past and where it all started.
